Meet the Alchemist

In the shadow of a life-altering diagnosis, Rodney Smith’s journey from adversity to innovation embodies the spirit of rebirth that defines Alchemy Golf. Diagnosed with stage three prostate cancer in February 2023, Rodney faced a grueling path: 45 rounds of radiation concluding on Juneteenth that year, coupled with hormone therapy that sapped his strength and passion for golf.

Once an avid player, the Houston heat and physical toll rendered full rounds impossible, his heart racing at an average of 130 beats per minute during attempts. Yet, in this challenge, a spark ignited. Retreating to chipping and putting at the driving range, Rodney began fitting clubs for others, soon transforming an unused room in his home into a workshop where he honed the art of building golf clubs.

One fateful night in July 2024, inspiration struck at 11 p.m., leading him to explore club design and forge partnerships with top golf club suppliers. Prototypes emerged, tested by former PGA Tour champion Keith Fergus, who praised them at his charity tournament. Though initial production yielded non-conforming clubs, Rodney pivoted, using them for feedback to refine his vision. By April 2025, the USGA granted conformance to the AG01 Pro wedges, set for launch in late September.

The name “Alchemy” was born from a lighthearted exchange with friend Ozzy Shah, who likened Rodney’s craft to an alchemist’s magic. Unbeknownst to the designer, the logo—a majestic Phoenix—perfectly captured Rodney’s resurgence from cancer’s grasp. As a devoted Christian and survivor, Rodney Smith now channels his renewed purpose into crafting exceptional golf clubs, inviting players to experience the transformation that Alchemy Golf represents, turning challenges into triumphs on and around the green.
